CHALK4PEACE 2009 ST. GEORGE'S CATHEDRAL, Cape Town, S. AFRICA 9/18/09 : The Community Arts Therapy Programme once again organized CHALK4PEACE at St. George's Cathedral in Cape Town, S. Africa.
On the 18 September, It rained right up to the time the event started. They swept the excess water away and drew "watercolors"!
Once again, for the fourth year, on the steps where Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu called for the end to Apartheid,
the artists of CATH created some of the most thought-provoking chalk paintings of the CHALK4PEACE movement.
Photographers: Angela Rackstraw and Mandy Lomberg.

Jerry Downs and John Aaron, CHALK4PEACE Board Members, traveled around the Bay to attend all three events that Saturday. Arriving in the afternoon at Mocha,
it had just stopped raining and the concrete where they've drawn for the past three years was drying out when we arrived. Beginning a peace symbol created a buzz
and brought folks flooding out to chalk their message. It was, once again, great fun! Thanks MOCHA for your support of CHALK4PEACE!!

INDIGO PROJECT: Miracle Mile's Artwalk/CHALK4PEACE 2009 : iNDIGO PROjECT drew children and nearby Miracle Mile Art Walkers to a Los Angeles street side parking lot to CHALK4PEACE on the oversized canvas. A colorful assemblage of peace themed art was sketched onto the pavement chalkboard at Bank of America on La Brea Ave. Tents and smiling faces encircled the drawing space, welcoming children to sample the organic treats of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and a local Community Supported Agriculture initiative. Energized pallets and creative minds let loose to enjoy the veritable block party of musical performances by Dirty Penny, The Deserters, Anne Montone, Klaus Larson, and tween heart throb Drake Bell. With the live music, Sycon Solar DJ put the day’s sunny sky to use, playing songs that spread the message of community and peace. Among the supporters was the non-profit Helping Others Worldwide, the sponsor of a youth art therapy program in Sierra Leon, Africa, for whom they were collecting clothing donations. Amidst creating masterful works of art, the children relaxed with guided yoga by instructor Gurutej, and colorful balloon bicycles were crafted for kids to take home. At the end of the event, participants witnessed the sun setting over the radiant drawings, which had completely covered the parking lot! It was understood that the artwork would soon fade, but iNDIGO PROjECT believes the experience of peace-full expression will remain with the kids long after the event.

Once again we see the wonderful art that the P.A.I.N.T.S. project encourages. We're told the weather was perfect: and brought the throngs
packed the playground. The Beach Dads kept the "starving artists" fed with their delicious buffet that went on all day long.
