"It's comin' from the feel that it ain't exactly real, or it's real, but it ain't exactly there..." Lyrics by Leonard Cohen
These are paintings done at Modern ARF West in Emeryville, CA during 2007.
They are influenced by the Essential Leonard Cohen album, Johnny Cash, Mark Knopfler, Todd Rundgren, Lyle Lovett and other storytellers.
Their music drives the creation of these paintings. References include Delvaux, Arneson, Escher, Rousseau, Marc, Grosz and cyberspace.
Some of the works are named after lyrics and words from Cohen's songs. Paintings are mixed media. Pricing is included in each painting's caption.
The artist is trained in architectural rendering, patent design illustration, children's book illustration, concept imagery for film and all phases of storyboard.
These works led to the commission of a large mural on page two of this gallery, a portrait of the Bay Area in 1939 for Playland Not-at-the-Beach,
a museum dedicated to bygone amusements in El Cerrito, CA.
