Ashlawn Elementary School, Arlington VA may have been the first group
of artists to set CHALK4PEACE in motion when they began drawing on
the playground Friday morning, September 15, at 9 a.m. E.S.T.
150 children joined in the colorful fun.
One young fellow showed us his drawing of a flag.
He said, "This is the flag of my country. I want you
to know that Mongolia is represented in CHALK4PEACE."
Anne Bridgman, an Ashlawn parent and longtime peace advocate,
arranged CHALK4PEACE events at both Ashlawn Elementary
and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington.
Ashlawn was also one of the Arlington County Schools
that, through the Humanities Project of Arlington
and Carol Regier, an Ashlawn educator, brought
Modern ARF's Chalk Painting Workshop to chalk up
their courtyard during the past school year.
Children from more than 100 countries were represented worldwide in CHALK4PEACE.
